BusinessDaily.eu – By Mikkel Egesberg – In June, new commercial vehicle registrations (trucks and vans) in the EU dropped by 5.8% compared to June last year. In Italy sales were down 29.8% and in Spain sales were down 28.7%, while France (-0.8%) and the UK (+0.2%) remained relatively stable. Germany was the only major market to post growth (+8.8%). The commercial vehicle sector is important to the EU economy. More than 2.3 million people are employed directly in the manufacture of motor vehicles and components in the EU. This corresponds to almost 7% of all manufacturing employment in the EU27, or 1% ot total employment. In total, the automobile industry supports more than 12 million European jobs. Increasingly, these are highly skilled jobs.
